We got a telescope

A few months ago, my husband and I made an effort and got a telescope for the girls. I has already told you we were really getting into astronomy as a hobby so it was the obvious next step so we could start stargazing in the backyard.

Which one did we get? Well, we used this guide of the best telescopes for kids who are similarly aged to my daughters and ended up getting a Celestron PowerSeeker 80EQ.

The view of the stars is great, we have also used it to look at the Moon and you can even recognize some of the craters like the Tycho crater when the weather allows for for it.

I think we have found a new hobby for the whole family to enjoy.

We will be looking at the stars some more as soon as the weather gets better in the area. We have had a few cloudy nights that haven’t allowed us to set up up the new telescope.

Does your family own a telescope? I think you should all totally get one, it’s so much fun to figure out how to use it (it’s very simple but it has its tricks) and learn more about the stars and the planets.

Comment if astronomy is something you have ever thought about getting into and let’s talk about it some more on this blog and on our next meeting.

Cheers!

I’ve been reading space books

I have really been getting into astronomy and space. The subjects really interest me and I also want my kids to read about these topics. I believe space and astronomy are going to expand their minds and help them in their personal quest to become better people.

It is really awesome what you can learn from astronomy books. I began with some beginner ones because I’m not that familiar with the subject but I already have a ton of facts on my mind that I can impress people with in our next friends gathering. I think I got the book bug and will continue to read more as the year goes on.

I started this blog as a journal to document my personal progress in learning areas so I hope that you guys keep on reading as I’m going to be sharing my life here.

I also got Diana some books so she can share the learning with me. Space books for kids are much cooler as they contain way more illustrations and pictures. We have been having a ton of fun with some like “A hundred billion trillion stars” written by a guy called Seth Fishman and illustrated by the wonderful artist Isabel Greenberg.

Let me know if there are any books you have read recently. I would love to chat some more and share the ones we enjoy.
